Ideate I - AR interactions (STBP 4/7)

I quickly sketched down my ideas to help visualise and figure out parameters on paper.

For this project the FOV of the device is 60°x50°.

I spent a lot of time sketching out gestures and ergonomics as they are extremely important in an AR experience.

Interacting With Holograms

Gazing

  • Long gaze (>2s) to tap (left)

  • Blink to tap (middle)

  • Gaze to hover + Voice control (right)

  • Mid gaze (~2s) to expand icon to window (left)

  • Look away to minimize window to icon (right)

Hand Gestures

  • Gaze to hover (left)

  • Hand gesture to pull towards the interactive zone (50cm distance) (right)

  • Gaze to hover

  • Hand gestures to interact

Device

  • Gaze to hover

  • Haptic feedback when Tap device

Conclusion

When going through the boarding process, people’s hands are usually busy with other urgent tasks, such as pushing their luggage or carrying paperwork.

With that context in mind I decided to use Gazing as the primary control method.
